Private Selection 100% Angus Beef Chuck Patties

As a test we decided to try some Angus Burger patties from the frozen section of the grocery store. This is the first time we have actually tried any of these pre-made burgers.

The patties are pretty large and come seperated with paper. The instructions say nothing about defrosting and almost insist that you cook them frozen. I guess these are made for the busy moms out there.

Well it was pretty easy to cook them. We heated up our 12 inch cast iron grill pan and cooked them for about 5 minutes a side. The packaging also states that 165° F is the target temp, so it went a little longer than 5 minutes. We tested with a thermometer.

Since they are frozen you can't really add any salt or pepper, it just falls off, and they are pretty large (1/3 pound before cooking) so you can't adjust for different dishes, or eaters.

Overall they were alright. Not very tasty. Basically bland. We topped ours with cheddar cheese and mushrooms, but it did not really help the bland taste of the burger.

I really don't think the cost (about a $1 a piece) is so great, but neither is the quality. It says on the box that the only ingredient is beef but you never know, and it is always easier and better to make you own burgers the size and flavor you want.
