The Nettleton road loop starting at Lewisburg saddle is one of my favorite runs. It is steep enough to be challenging, while not so steep that you injure yourself on the downhill; it's the perfect length (approximately seven miles) and most of it is shady and lovely. If you're not a runner you can always do a shorter segment or do an out and back. It makes a lovely hike or bike ride as well. I was talking to a very nice couple at the Sept. '07 Business After Hours. The husband works near this beautiful spot and neither of them had ever been there. You owe it to yourself to take a mini-vacation to a place like this before or after work, at lunch, or on a weekend when you're staying in town. It's hassle free and it costs nothing but a little gas. All you need is a bottle of water, your dog if you have one, and maybe your camera. How to get there: Go north on Highland, turn left on Lewisburg road and turn right on Sulphur springs road. Proceed for about two miles to the crest. There is a newly improved parking lot on the right, as well as a portapotty. The Nettleton loop is on the right side of the road. There are two roads there. On a chilly morning I recommend going out on the Nettleton road (the one on the right) and coming back on the left hand road. The Nettleton road goes for the ascent right off the bat and will get your blood moving. Rather than me clogging the Christonium server with a static map of this area, just go to google maps and enter Nettleton Road, Corvallis OR 97330 and see it for yourself.
