The type and grade of any building material will have an affect on how well a home withstands the weather and use. Price and ease of installation of a building material is typically a factor in what a home builder decides in planning to build any home. A poorly insulated home will not maintain the homes heat in Winter and retain the cool air in Summer. Attics should have at least 18" of insulation. If not then buyers need to consider alternatives. If attic vents are not functional then buyers need to look for mold in the attic or worse early wear on a roof due to inadequate air circulation in the attic. This comes under the heading of a competent home inspector doing a thorough review prior to writing a purchase contract. If homes are constructed of all brick in a hot climate there may need to be some consideration given to all brick construction retaing too much heat in summer causing higher than average cooling bills. The flip side of this equation is having a "Heat Pump" as the only source of heating in a northern climate. Heat pumps do not work efficiently in climates that average below 32 degrees fahrenheit.
