The answer is yes to the question Should a single person buy a home? It seems to me that the tax breaks alone make for a smart decision for a single person to buy a home.

Even if you are not handy and you spend a lot of time on the job it still makes sense to invest in a home. A small home is better than a small apartment. For a single man or woman a three bedroom home on a small to mid-size lot is a wise investment.

I am cetain that most single women and men have access to someone like dad, mom or a friend to help with some of the chores.

Even if you stay in your home for a short period of time, say three years, it is probable that you will not lose value and probably gain some value. At the very least you will have had the property tax and mortgage interest deduction on your Federal Income Tax.

The one caveat to any home purchase, especially for first time buyers, is to assemble your Real Estate Team, Attorney, Realtor, Lender and Home Inspector. You will never regret the time spent with these indiviuals. Take advantage of their cumulative experience and let it work for you.
