Brand & Type: Henckels Four Star 10-Inch Honing Steel
Price range: Medium
Description: 10 inch Honing Steel with rubber handle.
Pros: Works well, sturdy and has a long steel.
Conclusion: Every kitchen should have a honing steel. This tool does not remove metal from your blade, it simply aligns the steel of your blade straight. If you need to sharpen your blade because it is very dull then you should invest in a tool that does remove metal such as the Chef's Choice 460 Diamond Hone Sharpener.
Note: To properly utilize this tool it should be used often. For best practice use before any prep work begins. Hold you knife at a 20 degree angle and draw your knife across the steel about 10-20 times on both sides of the blade. This is a quick and effective way to always have a sharp knife.
If you do not currently have a honing steel then you can substitue the bottom of pottery to get the same result.
