When Mitt Romney appeared last week ,via closed circuit, before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. The Second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon Faith was hurting his quest for the Republican Presidential Nomination. He replied that the only people bringing up this question were members of the media. Per Robert Novak, "this is simply untrue". Quoting Robert Novak, "Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes". Novak further states, "that Romney's Religious preference is cited as a source of opposition to his candidacy". Robert Novak's thinking is that Mitt Romney has not yet determined how to deal with the question of his Mormon faith. Novak's contact with Mitt Romney's advisors idicates that Romney is electing to forestall any major comment on his faith. This argument with Religion was John Kennedy's very same problem, probably even more so, given the mores of 1960. John Kennedy was a Catholic. The argument by Kennedys detractors was that the "Pope" would be calling the shots with Kennedy. John Kennedy debunked that notion with his memorable speech in Houston Texas. If Mitt Romney is to be taken seriously on a National Level, current polling has Romney at 8% Nationally, he will need to put to rest this issue of his religion. The greater point is that Romney won election as Governor in Massachusetts with a Liberal agenda, then governed quietly as a Republican moderate. Well, Rudy Giuliani has a signifcant lead in the polls nationally over all other Republican's. Time will tell and the gloves will come off soon, Rudy Giuliani is a street fighter. Rudy will win the nomination and face Hillary Clinton. Political Musings is looking to find support for Chuck Hagel ,for President in 2008, from Nebraska and Joe Biden, as Vice President in 2008, from Delaware to form a ticket and run together.
