There are a few things that must be memorized before you can begin to teach yourself how to read music on a guitar:
String names
Musical alphabet
The sting names on the guitar from lowest pitch to highest are:
E
A

Conclusion-
What is most important to take from this lesson is that you must memorize the names of the strings on your instrument. If you cannot do this you will not be able to teach yourself how to read music. Next realize that the musical alphabet is the letters A through G. For our purpose here the alphabet starts on C.
