What could be more exciting than looking for a pretty mother of the groom dress? My son is getting married soon and I fell into this category of searching for a special and unique dress for this occasion. The first place I thought to look was the Dillard's website, to at least get an idea of the new and modern dresses and outfits, the department stores were showing. An off-the-rack dress has lots to offer, first they're affordable and mostly reasonable in a wide variety, including sizes, colors, brands and styles.
I was not disappointed as the range was quite impressive of short and long dresses and I even found a few tea lengths that I really liked, in amazing shades and hues from blacks to blues, greys to purples. Some offered sleeveless, sleeves, jacket dresses, boleros and shimmer dresses. The fabrics were lightweight and feminine in flowing chiffons, lace, silk or taffeta, pleats, tiered, beading or glitter. So many choices, and now at least I have an idea of this gorgeous selection from brands such as Adrianna Papell, Alex Evenings, Jessica Howard and JKara among a host of others.
However, I was leaning towards the Adrianna Papell tiered gown in a chocolate brown that was pretty and feminine. Although, I wasn't sure of the color and would see what the wedding party, and of course, the bride's mother was considering. So, I'll remember my choices for another day.
Going forward on my search, I went to the Nordstrom site that offered breathtaking designs, although a little more pricey. The deep shades were ideal for a more formal affair, in their elegant styles, but I did see several that would be perfect for an afternoon or evening ceremony. Many could be worn again for a social function, so at least I could have another wearing or two. Here, the jersey, taffeta and chiffon materials offered a contemporary look for a timeless appeal. I did see a stunning Tadashi Shojo jersey sequin gown that I just loved in a sophisticated style, that was age appropriate, and in a flattering shade called mineral.
Well, now at least I have some inspiration of styles, from classic to romantic, and designs that would work for me, as this is a special occasion. My plan is to spend the day shopping and trying on all these gorgeous dresses, finding the perfect mother of the groom dress for the wonderful festivities that will follow from ceremony to reception.

My mother was looking for an tea length evening or cocktail dress as she's the mother of the groom, who also happenens to be a plus size. That made our search a little bit challenging, so our first thought was to browse the Nordstrom website and take it from there. The selection of dresses were inspiring and just fun to visit. What a grand variety of contemporary designs and fashionable styles, that would be flattering on many figures and shapes. Our orginal thought was a Soulmates design, but I noticed the site didn't carry that brand, so the other option was a JS Collections dress but the only one I saw was a long gown. Moving on, I did notice other brands which would work, including Alex Evenings, JS Boutique, Adrianna Papell and J Kara for starters.
The beautiful dresses were age appropriate, feminine and would make a lovely impression. The updated styles included a mock two piece, jacket dress, tiered, beaded, godet, ruched, lace, mesh and a flattering asymmetrical. The dresses were reasonable, the colors ranged from soft pastels to vibrant hues, and the fabrics were luxurious and flowing. We really loved the chiffons, taffeta, satin and jersey materials, that added glamour, without the weight and bulkiness. The streamlined silhouettes of sheaths, flared, full and a-lines added a feminine mystique that would look and feel comfortable.
While looking for the perfect dress, we found that, the mother of the groom dresses are really a misnomer, since most dresses today can be worn again for different social engagements - weddings, dinners, parties or cocktails, among others. At the end of the day, the classic and timeless styles were very flattering on my mother and she couldn't decide on just one, so she bought two! What a great solution to a fun problem.

My sister was looking for a mother of the groom dress and I suggested that she take a look at the fabulous collection of Alex Evenings dresses, skirts, separates and gowns at the Nordstrom's wedding shop. We browsed the website first, getting some much needed inspiration. Well the site was filled with ideas, prices, styles, brands, colors and lovely pictures - just what we were looking for! The contemporary styles were eye-catching and feminine in long and short versions that would work nicely for an afternoon or evening wedding whether it was formal or informal.
The beautiful selection included tiered, one shoulder, knot front, beaded, ruched, v-neck, mesh, portrait-collar, lace and jacket dresses in lovely fabrics of jersey, chiffon, taffeta and satin. The dresses were affordable and varied in shades of blues, reds, browns and greens that would be attractive on most people, and also blend with the many pictures that were to be taken. We were delighted to visit the weddding shop at Nordstrom where all wedding accesssories and supplementals were available such as shoes, handbags, hose and of course jewelry.
Our quest ended with my sister purchasing a gorgeous dress that was appropriate for the time of day, location of the ceremony, and lavish reception that was to follow. She looked absolutely beautiful besides the bride of course, and the bride's mother. The color suited her perfectly and the dress flattered her figure in a simple unpretentious way. A happy ending for all.

Wandering Macy's website, I was intrigued by the gorgeous selection of mother of the groom dresses. The site had wonderful insight for choosing the right dress from the "dress finder" for casual, business or evening dresses. The pictures offered details of colors, sizes and prices for different social functions. Since I'm in the market for a mother of the groom dress, I was in heaven before I even got to the store!
The lovely styles for body types, hem lengths, sleeve lengths, sizes, prices and brands were a wonderful way to begin my search. The contemporary styles included sleeveless, sequins, jacket dresses, empire waist, glitter, beaded, metallic, scoop neck, v-neck, tiered and layered - need I go on. The flared, a-line, sheaths and full skirts offered something for everyone in flattering designs and updated versions of classic styles. I loved all the options in short and long lengths, flowing fabrics of silk, satin, taffeta and jackets, boleros or shawls that added warmth, comfort and style. Dresses in classic, romantic, trendy and traditional updated designs that could be worn for different social conventions and correctness.
Choices for formal, informal and semi-formal affairs, weddings or other ceremonial celebrations can all be found here, and I too fell into this category, as I needed a mother of the groom dress as well as I was invited to another formal event.
