On a recent trip to Saks Fifth Avenue I found it had a gorgeous collection of dresses for Mother of the Bride and other special events. I like feminine fabrics that are soft, flattering and comfortable. The evening dresses were sophisticated and elegant for any occasion.

Simple, sophisticated, and elegant are just words, but what is the meaning and implications of these three simple words? First of all, it describes a look, a feeling, a presence of a well put together, well dressed woman. Many times it has nothing to do with money, but a gracefulness, a womanliness. Maybe an aura, certain people have an unmistakable presence - someone who lights up the room. I really can't think of too many people who create this atmosphere of being noticed and not in a flashy way - (maybe a Grace Kelly), but with understated grace and sophistication.

Well, where am I going with this is the question? I can remember when my sisiter got married and my mother wore a beautiful navy blue chiffon gown with a bolero jacket for coverage as well, as it just flowed together nicely as a set or a complete outfit. A mother of the bride dress incorporates a total sense of style - from the hairdo, jewelry, and evening shoes to handbag. That's what one wants to accomplish from a lovely dress, a gown or cocktail dress no matter the length, sleeves - no sleeves, neckline, strapless, v-neck - it doesn't matter. A dress must have the right fit and then everything else will come into play. Saks Fifth Avenue incorporates all these timeless elements, such as the elegant Tadashi Shoji dresses to make any woman feel like a Queen. So we're looking for an elegance, a simplicity, a social code for a ceremony or reception with diginity and decorum especially in a formal setting. But it doesn't really matter - good taste never goes out of style from a casual beach wedding to a formal affair a special mother of the bride will always stand out.
