Browsing the Nordstrom website I saw several cocktail dresses that would be perfect for an afternoon wedding or social engagement. I think a tea length or short dress rather than a long one was a better choice for my needs. I was thinking of a pale color in maybe a sheath or a-line or even a jacket dress. A dress that was reasonable in price, stylish, comfortable and something I could wear to another function. It couldn't be that hard to find. Since my daughter is getting married soon, I needed a dress that was pretty and feminine, elegant and sophisticated. An all-in-one dress! She's having an afternoon reception in a curved garden setting near a small lake. An area that has an open and airy feeling filled with greenery, architectural interest, pots of flowers everywhere and small tables with crisp white linens. So a simple dress is my first choice as I didn't want to compete among the flora setting. I saw many lovely and charming dresses on the website, and I couldn't wait to see them in person.
The collection of cocktail dresses were so impressive, in every silhouette, size, color, brand and price range one could imagine. All so beautiful - how can I possibly choose just one. The selection included sheaths, a-lines, full skirts, v-necks, scoop and even asymmetrical necklines! The attractive dresses came in soft lovely fabrics, modern styles and smart designs. I was looking for a relaxed and easy going but polished look that would observe the formal ceremony but still conform to the natural setting.
Well, all my hopes of finding the perfect dress came to a wonderful and rewarding ending as I narrowed down my choices to two pretty and graceful cocktail dresses. The first one was from Donna Ricca - a sheath satin with a few ruffles around a v-neck. The dress was stunning in a haze hue that I loved with a slight cap sleeve - that fit my body type perfectly. What could be better? But the Sue Wong Illusion Bodice Dress was so smart and sophisticated with overlays and three-quarter sleeves. I loved the simplicity and elegance of this dress, the sleeves, and that it was comfortable draping my figure nicely and the taupe shade was ideal. The fabrics and construction for these dresses were outstanding. Although the Sue Wong was a bit pricey - I knew I was worth it on this special day! Yes, I'm going back and forth deciding on the right dress - choosing sandals or pumps to complement this outfit and minimum of jewelry since both dresses really didn't require anything gaudy. As of right now both these flattering dresses would make a beautiful mother of the bride. And that's me!
