Remember the old saying form follows function, well Wikipedia associates this with architecture, but I'm going for a mother of the bride dress. In doing this, the function is a wedding - and I'm the mother of the bride (form). The intent is to find a gorgeous dress, in a stunning silhouette, in a striking color, fabulous fabric and impressive design. Am I asking the impossible? I don't think so. I began browsing the Dillard's website to enhance my knowledge of mother of the bride cocktail dresses, sets, jacket dresses and gowns. I had a wonderful time glancing at the gorgeous assortment of designers, sizes, prices, colors and fabrics that were exactly what I was looking for. What could be better? Or easier? Armed with this information I was on a mission to find a beautiful, elegant and timeless mother of the bride dress.

The website was complete with photos of lovely dresses from brands such as Alex Evenings, London Times, Adrianna Papell, Jessica Howard and KM Collections. Need I go on? Spectacular and innovating, the dresses captured all the inspirations and emotions I was looking for. An elegant and timeless and classic mother of the bride dress. Okay, here I was caught up in all the glamour and elegance of a dress that would be a key element on my daughter's pictures. Yes, I remember my mother looking like a conventional and beautiful mother on my wedding day, and I wanted my daughter to remember the same. Since these pictures last a lifetime, I wanted to appear in an attractive way.

There were two dresses that I was especially fond of that would be age appropriate, sophisticated and fashionable for my purpose. One was the Marina lace dress and the other was the Jessica Howard bolero jacket dress. Two very different dresses - one short, one long different fabrics, designs, colors and styles. Chestnut or saffahire, gunmetal or black? Sheath or slightly a-line, v-neck or a framing mockneck? What to do? Go to the nearest Dillard's and visit the Wedding Shop and try on the gorgeous dresses befitting a mother of the bride.
