Meet Kevin Johnson - March 20, 2008 The very beginning of this episode featured a "Previously on Lost" flashback getting us ready for the story of Michael and his tale of leaving the Island while Jack, Kate and Sawyer are tied on the dock. But then we find Michael in New York, clearly in post-Island mode, mental and alone. Did we miss the story of how his little tug-boat went out in the open water, stayed on the correct bearing and landed in New York without anyone ever realizing he'd been gone? I guess sometime in a future episode we might learn a bit about that trip but for now we land in Locke's village as he begins to tell the others about his plan. As he drags in Miles Straume, Locke tells Sawyer, Clarie and company about the people on the boat and how they want Ben. And now Ben gives a little about Michael as his spy and Locke takes nothing as he tries to play leader. But enough of Locke's camp as we have Michael's trek to learn about. Sparing each and every detail, suffice it to say that we do not learn about Michael's initial departure from the Island, nor do we see more than a glimpse of Walt. Remember that the kid grew, and when Locke last came into contact with him he was older, and we have to keep that fiction up for a while longer until we learn the truth about what Walt was really doing with the “Others”. Tom & Michael When Tom Friendly meets Michael in the alley in Manhattan he mentions that it has been two months since he left the Island. Given that Michael left the Island on day 67 or so, and Tom Friendly was killed by Sawyer on day 93, that leaves only 26 days between that time, not two months. Another point to mention is that the submarine was destroyed by Locke somewhere between day 80 and 82, giving even less time for Tom to leave the Island, and then return to be killed by Sawyer.
Episode Questions: Are there two Tom's?Is there another sub?Or do they have multiple modes of travel? Including time? Was it crucial to the story that we learn Tom is gay?Did Ben purposely lead Danielle and Carl to their death? It looks like Michael was not the one to open the door for Sayid and Desmond on the boat, so there is someone else on the boat that knows whats going on. I guess we will have to wait to find out.Once Michael finishes retelling his story to Sayid and Desmond, Sayid curiously takes him to the captain and exposes him. Now generally Sayid is cooler than this. Is he so completely blinded by rage that he does not take the time to weigh whether the captain is at all trustworthy? or does Sayid place an inordinate amount of respect in authority? Anyway it is somewhat out of character.
