A Play

According to an advertisement I came across the local theater is putting on a play from a famous writer. It is a comedy and a popular one. The many scenes are all to take place on this very popular local stage and performed by an acting troupe that frequently returns to the area.

This particular play while claiming comedy as one its centerpieces, also possesses rich dialog and literary effects. Many references to the seasons and their effects are given. Many references to mythology and some of its namesakes predominate the play.

It is even supposed to be littered with monologues that charm and teach. These monologues are longer scripted speeches by the actors that enlighten the audience as to what the characters are up to. They tell the audience what their relationship to other characters is as well as what their role is in their general frame of life.

Some plays even possess mythical creatures like fairies and witches. I don't know if this one in particular does, but I am sure these creatures appeal to the audience's sense of fantasy and adventure. They bring a quality of romance and adventure that ordinary kings and queens sometimes don't live up to.

A comedic play in general is one that appeals to an audience member's sense of timing and values. One lover spiting another is a good bet that much dialog will stem from it. Exaggeration and humor go hand in hand in the example of one character courting another. Exaggerating a list of accomplishments or a list of virtues one possesses could enlighten the audience and the opposing character as to what should be deemed funny. Exaggerating the list of positives a certain woman possesses is surely a way to her heart and the audience's sense of humor.

In all, this play promises to be a winner. This advertisement with time and date included was a reminder of the local culture sometimes ignored. It is good and refreshing to be a part of different events. Events like this one appeal to many different types of characters. Everything from the play's wonderful sense of language—both prose and poetry—to its wonderful sense of timing should make viewing the play enjoyable. To top it all off is I am sure performances that will be remembered for months to come. A handsome couple walking off the stage together will likely make for an all around good time and show.
