Today Alex Rodriguez hit another home run, his 600th to be exact. I wish I could say I was happy for him and for baseball. Make no mistake I am an avid baseball fan. I have played the game coached the game and watched many a game in the past sixty years.

I have no feeling of joy for his accomplishment. The only Major League Players that are in the 600 Homer club that deserve to be there are Ruth, Aaron, Mays & Griffey. Sosa, Bonds & Rodriguez, also in that exclusive 600 plus homer elite group, used performance enhancement drugs of one type or other making their achievements meaningless in my view.

The next player with a chance to make it to 600 homers is Jim Thome with 577. Maybe he will and maybe he will not reach 600, but at least Jim Thome has not tarnished his name or the game of baseball.

Rodriguez may well break Barry Bonds record of 762. It will mean little to baseball  purests. Hank Aaron is the real home run king followed by Babe Ruth & Willie Mays.

I hope the New York Yankees are comfortable with Rodriguez in Yankee Pinstripes. Do you ever wonder why the Yankees always look to Derek Jeter as "the face of the team" and not Rodriguez? I think we all know the answer to that question!
