The Boston Red Sox Defeated the Oakland A's 6-5 today in the 2008 Major League Baseball Season opener in Japan. The game began at 6am EST and 3am PST.

It was a back and forth event with both teams showing a little "rust". In the end Oakland's Closer Huston Street could not seal the victory for the Oakland A's. The Boston Red Sox came back with a defensive gem from Jacoby Ellsbury in Centerfield and clutch hitting from Manny Ramirez.

Johnathan Papelbon closed out the game for the Red Sox to get his first save of the 2008 season.

Game 2 in Japan will be played tomorrow.
