Knoll Saarinen Retro Round Pedestal Dining Table & Tulip Chairs

Cool, retro modern and striking, are words which could be used to describe the Knoll Saarinen round pedestal dining table and matching Saarinen tulip chairs. Even though these furniture were designed in -56, they feel remarkably up to date and fresh. Perhaps it's because great style never goes out of fashion, and these are pieces which are very well designed and can be varied endlessly. The original pieces can be found at Design Within Reach, where needless to say, they are pretty pricey. If you're concerned about authenticity, then that's great, and that's the place to go. If on the other hand you simply like the general style, then you can find similar pieces (not originals of course) at other stores for a fraction of the cost. Even amazon offers a Saarinen style table for only $341.

Over at DWR however, you can find a range of colors and really neat combinations which would put a spin on any dining room or kitchen. And placing one of these sets in the kitchen seems like the perfect thing to do. The design of the Tulip table and matching chairs by Eero Saarinen are so unique and cool looking, and they feel rather informal, perfect for a breakfast nook or the kitchen. Save the more traditional furniture for the dining room (if you're lucky enough to have both!) and add this fun and neat set for the day to day space. Also, these pedestal tables and chairs (which are available in armless and with arms design) are really easy to keep clean and feel rather timeless, yet modern and retro. Of course, the swivel seat does remind me a bit of a diner, and while that can be rather fun, it might also be a bit too much for some people to bring into their home...
