There are several different kinds of sinks to use in the kitchen. It can be a bit confusing to see which one would be best for your needs, so let's take a look at each design.
Apron Front Apron front sinks are generally quite deep, they have an exposed front and they usually don't have decks, so faucets are mounted in the countertop or on the wall above the sink. This design is quite old fashioned and feels practical and rustic.
Undermount This type of sink looks quite integrated as it sits below the surface of the counter. You can easily brush crumbs and dirt directly into the sink from the counter. The faucets are mounted in the countertop or on the wall above the sink. This type of sink is usually used with counters of stone since the countertop edge remains exposed.
Integral If you're looking for a sink that is made in the same material as the countertop, then this is the type to go for. These sinks are easy to clean because there are no seams between the sink and the countertop. The faucets are mounted in the countertop or on the wall above the sink.
Self Rimming This type of sink has a lip that sits on the countertop which can make clean up annoying. This sink is also called top mounted, drop in or self rimming. Usually faucets are mounted on the sink deck. -------------------
After you have decided on what type of sink to use, you'll also have to make a decision regarding material. There are lots of options such as porcelain, stainless steel, copper and marble to mention a few.
