Friday at the Masters brought some surprises and several disappointments. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Fred Couples, at 52 years of age, is tied for the 36 hole total -5 to par with Jason Dufner. Couples still has that fluid swing that enabled him to win this tournament in 1992.

A personal disappointment is not having Tom Watson playing on the weekend. I have a strong bias in favor of the seniors participating. Another item in the disappointing category is Tiger Woods, +3 to par through two rounds. Not exactly tearing up the course. Tiger Woods biggest problem is the space between the ears, his mindset!

Some players that are supposed to be in the hunt include Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood. I do believe both of these players will fold under the pressure on Sunday on the back nine. Watch out for Phil Mickelson. If Mickelson did not have that triple bogey in round one he would be leading this tournament!

Day three has Tiger teeing off early due to his poor position in the standings. I am certain that CBS Television is disappointed. They will have to show a lot of video instead of live Television. Ratings do matter. Lucky for CBS they will have Phil Mickelson & Vijay Singh playing together six groups back from the final two, Couples & Dufner.

I predict that the player who has the best putting stroke on Saturday and also can birdie #18 will be in the final group on Sunday. The only player that has birdied #18 on Thursday & Friday is Phil Mickelson. The issue that remains in the forefront for Mickelson to win his fourth "Green Jacket", he will need to be playing from the fairway on Saturday and Sunday.
