Pecans are great to use as a substitution for ground almonds, walnuts or hazelnuts (filberts) if you can't find them or if they are less expensive then anything else. They have a rich flavor and spread well if you are going to use them in cookies or cakes.
Pecans resemble walnuts but have a more elongated shape with a sweet and crunchy taste. Popular and versatile pecans are a good source of protein and unsaturated fats and due to their high oil content it is best to store them in the refrigerator.
They are available raw, roasted (oil and dry), with paper shells, hard shells, salted and no salt, pieces and organic.
The delicated flavor is found in cookies, cake, breads, pastires, pies, buns, candies, ice cream, muffins, chocolate, vegetables or as a topping for salads and just snacking.
