Comedian, Youth of the Year keynote Teen Summit

CORVALLIS, Ore. – “Success is in Your Reach” is the theme if this year’s Teen Summit, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus.

The Benton County Health Department is hosting the annual one-day conference, which provides an opportunity for eighth- through 12th-grade students from throughout Benton County to network with students from other schools. Participants will be able to attend the Resource Fair to learn about Benton County agencies and how to get involved or volunteer. Workshop sessions will cover diverse topics such as team building, leadership, stress management, Yoga and Power Soccer.

This year’s keynote speakers are Russ Peak and Patrick McCarthy. Peak – an award-winning comedy entertainer, captivating youth speaker and one of the nation’s leading experts in psychological influence and communication – will kick off the event with his dynamic presentation. McCarthy – Boys and Girls Club of Corvallis Youth of the Year – will provide a firsthand example of how volunteering and being engaged in the community has positively impacted his life.

Teen Summit’s goal is to provide Benton County youth the skills and raise interest in making positive healthy choices through building self-esteem, increasing confidence and providing avenues to engage in the community. The event is sponsored by the Benton County Health Department, The Boys and Girls Club of Corvallis, Corvallis Parks and Recreation, the Benton County Commission on Children and Families, Oregon State University-LaSells Stewart Center, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, Cyclopia, Peak Sports, Interzone, Café Yumm, Starbucks, Chipotle, First Alternative Natural Foods Co-Op and Play it Again Sports.
