Recently we were in Safeway in downtown Corvallis browsing the wine section when we came across a bottle of Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Gris vintage 2009. Safeway has a nice selection of Oregon wines and with the "Safeway Discount Card" it is possible to save up to $5 dollars on just one bottle of wine. Therefore this made our decision an easy one, buy the wine!
Having been to Willamette Valley Vineyards on several occasions and knowing that their wines are excellent we were anxious to bring this bottle to a special dinner. No exaggeration or hyperbole necessary, everyone loved this Pinot Gris.
Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Gris is balance of citrus with some pear and mango overtones at least to my palate. The bouquet is like smelling a vase of just cut flowers sitting beside a bowl of fresh fruit. This Pinot Gris is smooth, just bold enough to be paired with some salmon or chicken. We had some fresh Dover Sole encrusted with almonds and pesto with our bottle of Pinot Gris. Delicious is just not a strong enough adjective to use to describe how good this meal actually was. The bottle of Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Gris made everything even better.
I will purchase another bottle and highly recommend this wine. I rate this wine an "A".
