Water damage triggers road and bridge restrictions
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Benton County Public Works has imposed emergency traffic restrictions on a county road and bridge due to recent weather-related damage.
High water saturations caused by melting snow followed by heavy sustained rains in late January triggered flooding, slides and other damage to county and city of Corvallis infrastructure. In some areas of rural Benton County damage is severe and will require sustained warm and dry weather to allow conditions adequate for repair and reconstruction. Benton County Public Works Director Roger Irvin said it will take time to assess the damages and develop a strategy for repairing the road and bridge.
In the meantime, a 15-ton weight restriction has been placed on Decker Road, south of Philomath, at milepost 3.4 from Ervin Road to Beaver Creek Road. The road is down to one lane in that area due to slide damage. Vehicles heavier than 15 tons should use the detour from South 13th Street or South 19th Street in Philomath to Chapel Drive, proceeding to Bellfountain Road before taking Llewellyn Road to Highway 99W.
Alder Creek Bridge on Harris Road, west of Philomath near Wren, is closed to all traffic because of severe damage caused by a tree that fell across the structure, rendering it impassable. Detour route has been posted on Harris Road.
The Benton County Board of Commissioners is expected to ratify those restrictions at its regular meeting on Feb. 7.
As of Wednesday, Logsdon Road also is down to one lane due to landslide. East Ingram Island Road, East Ingram Island Place, Niagara Drive between Ribier Place and Niagara Place and Worden Circle at Concord Drive are closed due to landslide. Bundy Road, Eureka Road, Irish Bend Road and Stow Pit Road, approximately one half mile from Highway 99W, still experience high water. They are determined to be passable, though.
