Thursday evening, October 18th, there was a League of Women Voters Candidate Forum held at the Corvallis Public Library. Ward 6 candidates Joel Hirsch (Incumbent) and challenger Steve Redman squared off responding to questions from the League of Women Voters and also from those voters in attendance. Approximately 80 voters were in the audience.

Joel Hirsch characterized his experience, competence, and continuity as the key reasons to vote for Hirsch for a third term as councilor in Ward 6. Joel Hirsch championed a revision of the present Land Development Code as one of the challenges for the next city council. Hirsch went on to say that the current Land Development Code was last revised 14 years ago and is out of date.

Challenger Steve Redman questioned why city reserves were allowed to get so low, and why there were no solutions offered by current city council to help grow out of the current fiscal problem. Steve Redman spoke of his pledge to maintain fiscal responsibility. Redman also addressed Public Safety and the ratio of Corvallis police officers being 60% below The State of Oregon average. The State of Oregon average is 1.6 per 1,000 citizens vs .97 per 1,000 citizens in Corvallis.

Name: Ward 6 voter Comment: It is past time for a change in this town. Joel Hirsch is like a dealer in three card monte. Steve Redman is my choice. We need to have a change of attitude and a change in the way we go about spending the taxpayers dollars. No more free rides, a play on words for Joel Hirsch.
