The Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain are currently docked in the harbor in Newport, Oregon. The purpose of their visit to Newport is educational, vocational, and ambassadorial. The Lady Washington tall Ship is the Official Ship of the State of Washington.
Saturday this newspaper took the ride on Highway 20 from Corvallis to Newport to see first hand these beautiful ships. Newport was alive with thousands of fellow tourists interested in going aboard for a personal glimpse of history.
The Hawaiian Chieftain was open for public viewing however the Lady Washington was not open to the public on Saturday. She had only arrived in Newport from Coos Bay at 0400 am and the crew was recuperating from their sea travel.
The weather was ideal for picture taking. Evening sea excursions were scheduled but were unfortunately already totally booked!
If you have the time in the next few days take a ride to Newport and enjoy some of History.
