On Friday, January 20th, 40 people from The Move to Amend Corvallis affiliate chartered a bus and proceeded to Eugene, Oregon to take part in the 2nd anniversary protest of the Citizens United Decision by the United States Supreme Court. Rachel & Bob Ozretich & Bart Bolger coordinated the organization of the event.

A like group from the Eugene area joined in the protest which began on the University of Oregon campus, went to the Lane County Courthouse and ultimately to the United States Federal Courthouse in Eugene.

Local history on the Move to Amend Movement began in October, 2011.

The following is how Rachel & Bob Ozretich put to words their passion, on the movetoamendcorvallis.info web site.

Move to Amend (MTA) is the nation-wide leader of the movement to amend the U.S. Constitution to declare that CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE and MONEY IS NOT SPEECH. The legal designations to the contrary by the U.S. Supreme Court, especially in the recent Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision, have given a corrupting level of control of our political system to wealthy individuals and giant corporations.

Next steps: Rachel & Bob are in communication with the Corvallis City Recorder and Corvallis City Attorney in preparation for submitting an Advisory Question Initiative for consideration by the Corvallis City Council for the Nov 2012 ballot. This will require 2624 valid signatures to be collected in a period of approximately three months, once the wording of a Ballot Title has been approved by the City Attorney. This citizen-originated “Advisory Question” initiative process is provided for by Chapter 1.10 of the Corvallis Municipal Code.

There is also another case, speechnow.org vs FEC, in the Courts.
