Saturday, August 25th – History Hike at Marys Peak.  This short hike will emphasize the history of Marys Peak.  Before the hike, an authority on local history will inform participants of facts and lore about this landmark.  Then we’ll leave from the campground to walk through noble firs along the Meadow Edge trail until we reach the top.  2-mile loop.  Meet at the Wilkinson Hall parking lot at 12:00 Noon.  Contact leader:  Nancye Ballard, at ballardjn@gmail.com or 541-752-4441.

Howdy Neighbor Tree Farm Tour - August 25

In cooperation with the Lincoln County Chapter of the Oregon Small Woodlands Association (OSWA), OSU Extension Forestry, Oregon Forest Resources Institute, and Oregon Tree Farm System, OSWA is hosting a tour on Gene and Jessie Cooper's tree farm.  The tour will showcase an intensively managed forest that has been managed since 1947 by Gene and Jessie.  The tour is free, open to the public, and includes lunch.  Tour starts at 9:30AM. Dirctions: From Newport go east on HWY 20 to Burnt Woods store.  From Philomath, go west on HWY 20 to Burnt Woods store.  Turn south on Harlan-Burnt Woods County Road and travel 3.5 miles - Coopers home on the right side.  Look for signs on the road. PHILOMATH HIGH SCHOOL GRAND OPENING  
CELEBRATION & TOUR
Saturday, August 25, 2012
11:00 am

The Philomath High School Grand Opening Celebration is this Saturday,  August 25th beginning at 11:00 am.   The event will include a ribbon-cutting, dedication and tours of the newly renovated high school building.  Senator Ron Wyden will be attending as well, as this large project was made possible by the low interest bond legislation that was sponsored by the senator.   Construction progress will also be highlighted, along with local spending and historical information relating to the project.  Cake will be served, and food will be available to purchase.  The entire Philomath community is invited to this event!
