Thursday evening was the perfect opportunity to join in on the Edible Gardens Tour organized by the Food Action Team of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition. Annette Mills is the driving force and primary organizer in the creation and promotion of these kinds of tours sponsored by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition.
The intent of this evening outing was to promote the use of yard space, front lawns, curb areas to grow food and increase and include the use of edible plants into your landscaping. Edible landscaping provides many benefits including food for consumption, exercise, and sense of neighborhood.
Seven gardens were visited including the Corvallis High School Spartan Garden at Fillmore & 14th adjacent to the high school outdoor track. Other gardens visited on the tour included one at 505 NW 6th st., 444 NW 8th St., and Harrison & 14th.
About 40 individuals participated, an outstanding number. So many different types of vegetables were observed including arugula, peppers, corn, tomatoes, chard, herbs, kiwis, grapes and so many more.
