We just finished a wonderful bottle of Redwood Creek Pinot Noir. Frei Brothers Vineyards from California produced this bottle in 2006. It was enjoyed with an exquisite piece of Beef Wellington, Baked Potato and Vegetable. This Pinot Noir was smooth with a cheery bouquet and a smooth finish to ones palete.

Give this Pinot Noir a try................

The main label says "vin du pays..." "Product of France"
The back label also says when you translate the French. Produced in France, and then "imported and bottled in the US by Frei Brothers, Modesto Ca.
So not only did they not make it, but they imported it in bulk, and bottles it in California.
Also, "Vin du Pays" is the lowest level on the French Quality chart. produced from grapes no one else wants. The equivalent of a Carlo Rossi in the States.
Not a good quality Pinot at all. No estate bottles 2006 Pinot should be ready to drink yet. Two different restaurants in my area have it on their list as a California wine. Even the distributor has it listed as a California wnie. Just thought you'd like to know.

Name: Shyguy | Comment: I agree that this wine isn’t "all that." my question is should a $6.00 bottle be subject to the scrutiny that the web seems to proliferate? This is no Clous Du Bois (sp?) or Girard, or take you pick in the $15.00 - $30.00 range....because it’s not! It is a good buy at the $6.00 or so that I paid - I mean, I won’t be pouring the balance of the bottle down the toilet.

I am a novice, but I know what I like and there are many bottles (like cigars) under $8 to $10.00 that quite enjoyable when you don’t want to splurge. I say this is a wine of thin, but somewhat complex taste fr the price. There are notes of vanilla, citrus, and cherry. There is a touch of toast and wood as well.

On the negative side, this wine is harsh on the palate and has a very thin finish. It is somewhat “syrupy” as well. The flavors I mentioned are not abundantly, but again, this is a cheap bottle and at this price point, I have tasted many that were outright terrible. This is a wine that is subject to one’s individual taste and budget. Say what you will, there are plenty of other cheap wines that are far more "flushable!"

That’s my 2 cents (or $7.50 worth.)

Enjoy,
Scott

Name: lovered | Comment: I love Pinots and usually spend $20 regularly to satisfy my cravings. In this "bad economy" I am trying to find ways to cut back but still enjoy my daily fix. Redwood is a great bargain for under $5. I've paid more for much worse. If your looking for a simple red to enjoy this is a great deal. Like Scott mentioned this wine is thin, but for the price I think you wont be disappointed.

Name: Dianne | Comment: We had the Redwood Creek Pinot Noir (2006) with a Lasagna dish and it was wonderful. This wine has a very pronounced bell curve taste. A slow initial wetting and initiation on the palette, followed by a complex mix of citrus vanilla. It has a very mild finish to complete the curve. I like this wine's finish because it does not over power the palette for your next bite during a meal. After the first bottle, I went back the following day and bought three more bottles for storage. It must be a good mover, because there were not many left on the shelf the following day. I've paid much more for much worse. In the budget bottle category, it's a front runner for best buy.

Name: mike | Comment: After a bottle of expensive Cabernet I was a little disappointed in the "more economical" Redwood Creek. I am no wine genius but the wine is very much what i expected and for a rainy Sunday... how can you go wrong.

Name: Michael | Comment: I am a novice also, but i just had a bottle of cristom which was delicious but also sixty dollars at dinner the other night. i went into a local grocery and bought six bottles of pinot noir all under fifteen dollars and this was great for 7 dollars and i would even been happy at 15 to 20. it was a little thin but who cares under ten dollars and the finish was short but who cares again at under ten dollars. i think it was great. thanks , mike

Name: Roger | Comment: I agree, this is not bad for the money. Wine and especially Oregon Pinot Noir has escalated in price more than we can afford. Anything under $9 or $10 dollars per bottle in a Pinot Noir is worth the price.

Name: Lisa | Comment: I don't have a sophisticated palate, by any means, but I just have to say that I have never enjoyed a bottle more than I enjoyed this one. I guess I'm just that one person on the planet for whom this was the perfect bottle - some kind of kismet in the meeting of tongue and wine, evidently! I suppose I should thank my lucky stars that the wine that so tickles my fancy is (apparently) incredibly affordable!

And to think, my father always said I was expensive... ;-)

Name: Brian | Comment: I've vacationed in Oregon twice this year, and got to try several pinot noirs from the region. I agree that they're great, but inflated. The Redwood Creek is not of the same quality, certainly, but not every occasion requires a $25 bottle of wine. A simple wine for simple meals, at a very reasonable price, suits me just fine.

Name: Jorge | Comment: Hi, I am a server in New York and I can tell just some words about the Redwood Pinot Noir, I think it has a sherry bouquet with thin and not long finish, hints of vanilla, I can see the legs of wine on the glass and for me this is kind of light body, is not complex at all for me, but on the other hand I can tell you that I like it! at the end for me is not the price or if the king of france made it by himself. Is just that I like it and then is my job to find some good food matches for this Pinot Noir and for the moment I can think about some broiled salmon with wild rice, st. spinach and some pink peppercorn sauce like we served in the restaurant I work..

I hope somebody thinks just like that tooo....
