Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has asked Unionized State Workers to agree to 26 unpaid furlough days, up from an earlier request of 8 days. This move would amount to a 5% pay cut. Governor Kulongoski wants the workers to take two furlough days by June 30th, and then 24 days, one a month, during the 2009-2011 budget cycle. Kulongoski spokesman Rem Niven said if all State Workers, union and non-union, agree the savings would be $105 million dollars. Earlier this month the union offered to accept Governor Kulongoski's offer of eight days furlough. www.gazettetimes.com
