Saturday was a fine weather day in the Willamette Valley so we decided to take a ride to some of the vineyards having Thanksgiving Weekend wine tastings.

One of our stops was at Illahe Vineyard in Dallas, Oregon. The view from the Tasting Room alone is worth the drive!

We have traditionally enjoyed Riesling wine and tasted a Dry Riesling 2010 vintage.

A very fine wine, delicate, subtley dry with a slight hint of spice, pear and apple. Excellent to the nose and smooth finish.

I would purchase a bottle and recommend this wine as an excellent choice as a gift or to have with dinner.

I rate this Riesling as "A-".  Cost: $17. This is a new release per Illahe information.

Willamette Valley Vineyards Riesling Review

Fred Meyer has evidently joined the ranks of local food markets consistently hosting wine tastings. In the past several weeks, on two separate occasions, there have been wine tastings. The first time in late February a representative from Willamette Valley Vineyards shared some tasting opportunities with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Riesling Wines. A compliment to the gentleman working the event; he was well versed on the particulars regarding the wines and very professional.

I tasted some of the Willamette Valley Vineyards Riesling and subsequently elected to purchase a bottle of the same. This Rielsing was probably best suited as a dessert wine or perhaps an aperitif. This Riesling wine is fruity, somewhat sweet with a presence of pear, apple and perhaps some quince fruit. At least this is what my palate told me. It was smooth and most enjoyable. We had a small glass prior to dinner along with some cheese and crackers accompanied with some very tasty and very syrupy balsamic vinegar.

This wine was good served chilled. My dinner guests enjoyed this wine with some roast pork. No complaints from anyone! I would purchase another bottle of Willamette Valley Vineyards Riesling. I rate this wine  as "B+".

We came upon this bottle of Fetzer Riesling at Trader Joe's in Corvallis. Priced at $5 a bottle we decided to give it a try!

We made some home made spinach dip with crackers and enjoyed this bottle of Fetzer Riesling with family.

Much to our pleasure we loved it! This Fetzer Riesling definitely made a positive impression on each of us. Notes of apricot, peaches and pear predominate. Definitely semi-sweet but very complimentary with the spinach dip and crackers.

Great choice, would purchase again. This Fetzer Riesling makes for a very tasteful gift when visiting family or friends.

Considering the modest price this wine is rated an "A" all around.
