Sunday evening at the Benton County Veterans Memorial approximately 150 Corvallis and Benton County residents were present to help commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York, Washington D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Les Whittle, Korean War Veteran and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Corvallis, brought together several Corvallis & Benton County Civic Leaders, including Corvallis Mayor Julie Manning and Benton County Commissioner Annabelle Jaramillo to help honor those who gave their lives, on Septemebr 11th 2001, to serve and protect their fellow citizens of the United States.

The Corvallis Fire Department, Ladder 151, was present unfurling the colors on the front of a hook & ladder truck. The flag of the United States of America gently swaying in the evening breeze was quite a sight to behold.

Remarks from each of the Program's speakers mentioned the heroism of every person who perished that September day and of their dedication to duty in the face of horrific consequences.

Les Whittle, program coordinator,  is a valued citizen of Corvallis and Benton County. Without his efforts this Memorial Ceremony would not have been possible. Every Benton County resident owes a big thank you to Les Whittle!
