I have wanted to try this for a while as the label had me intrigued.

When pouring the first thing you will notice is how rich and ruby red the color of the ale is.

I let the ale sit and breathe for a few minutes prior to trying it. This is full flavored beer with a medium body.

The prominent flavors and aroma are caramel and toffee. The malts are much richer than a traditional amber ale. The finish is dry with just the right amount of bitterness and fruitiness. There is even a bit of sourness at the end. This beer reminded me of the caramel covered apples you can pickup right around Halloween just without the sweetness.

Wychwood Brewery from Oxfordshire, England brings out a very nice, dark red ale. They have taken an amber ale to a more intense level without sacrificing smoothness and drinkability. I would not put Hobgoblin's Dark Ale at the top of my UK favorite beer list but it was worth the try.

"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

-- Benjamin Franklin

The Beer Prayer
Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
They will be drunk,
At home as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foam head,
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer,
The bitter and the lager,
Forever and ever.
Amen
