Another great beer from Troegs brewing company. I have over the years had some very interesting and novel beers from this company and never am I disappointed. I include Rugged Trail as one of my favorites from them. It poured a warm, dark brown with an beige head. This ale has a slight hints of coffee, honey, almond and a bit of chocolate in both the aroma and flavor. This beer is like having a Starbuck's latte with a different sort of kick as it has an ABV 4.4%. I did find that this beer finished with just a slight sourness that seemed to work. The light carbonation makes this very easy to drink and gives the beer a smooth mouth feel. The consistency of the beer was more on the watery. Given the complexity of what would seem heavy flavors, this is a nice lighter ale with rich but balance nutty flavors.
