I picked this up as part of a Tommyknocker sample 12-pack. Since it is getting tough for me to find new beers to try, I was happy to grab this as I have never seen this brewer before. Alpine Glacier poured amber with a crazy tan head that head great retention. After my experience with the lager I took the pour slow and yet it exploded. Ah - like a proper pale ale, the aroma was dominated by the floral hops and vanilla notes. Tommyknocker frontloaded this beer with the fruity hops and then they died quickly where the dry caramel malts took over. Vanilla developed leaving just a hint of kiwi sweetness on the tongue. This finished very clean with the hops imparting dryness without much bitterness. Pick Axe was light body pale ale with a lot of carbonation. Overall I thought this was a great pale ale and would get this again without any hesitation. December 2008
