Baltimore-Washington Beer Works brings to us a beer inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's the Raven. How? Not really sure.

The Raven though is a medium body lager that is very malty. After pouring it into my chilled mug, the beer opened up a bit, allowing the malts mellow. The beer then took on the notes of a cream soda.

Personally I think this beer could use more hops to give the beer some needed bitterness.

Overall this is a pretty ordinary beer. I enjoyed this with steak and chicken. The beer complimented the meats as the Raven is not sweet.

This is a nice lager and worth a try if you can find it. I am just left wondering if the taste of this beer is poetic!

Sun Sep 02, 2007 11:32 pmThis is a pretty good beer. Good, not great. Also not sure how this relates to Poe. Chris brought home this beer in a big shipping box from the manufacturer that reads, "The Taste is Poetic". Which cracks me up. So for the next couple weeks, the proper response to whatever I happen to cook for dinner is now, "How is the chicken breaded in Panko? Christy, dear, THE TASTE IS POETIC!".
How is the corn on the cob with marinated ribeye? Mary, please, THE TASTE IS POETIC!" "You digging those nachos and pizza? Don't even get me started-THE TASTE IS POETIC!"

"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

-- Benjamin Franklin

The Beer Prayer
Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
They will be drunk,
At home as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foam head,
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer,
The bitter and the lager,
Forever and ever.
Amen
