Saranac's pilsners is part of their summer seasonal collection of beers. Like all the others I have tried this is unremarkable but a very good beer. This had the yeasty notes of a pilsner but not a classic on style. However like the rest of their summer beers, it was refreshing and simple.
Golden Pilsner poured "golden" with a weak white head.
The aroma was malty and yeasty like a traditional pils but it was lighter and without much character.
With that in mind, the flavor was similar. The bready yeast and malts were the dominate flavors that were further embelished with a citrus sourness. The yeast notes carried through until the bitterness kicked in. The flavor of this beer was generally light.
As with other pilsners the body is light and this was well also carbonated.
Golden Pilsner was not a special beer but it worked for me. All the summer brews from Saranac had a similar character in that they were simple and were really nice drinkable beers.
