It is not even November and the winter seasonals are making their way to the store shelves already. I would have held out, but after enjoying Blue Moon's Harvest Moon autumn beer so much, I had to try their winter ale ASAP.

Winter Ale pours a nice rich amber with a thick orange head.

The aroma was warm and nutty than an essence of brown sugar develops.

The flavors reflect the aroma very well as this is a mellow, relaxed beer with deep nutty malts and a velvety texture.  Warming roasted malt give this beer its winter character.

There was just a bit of bitterness from the hops at the finish.

The body was on the lighter side of medium with a good amount of carbonation.

This was a higher alcohol beer with an ABV of 5.6% - intended to warm you up on a cold, winter day.

To me this beer reminded me of walking in NY City in the winter and smelling the aroma from the push-cart vendors selling roasted chestnuts.

"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

-- Benjamin Franklin

The Beer Prayer
Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
They will be drunk,
At home as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foam head,
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer,
The bitter and the lager,
Forever and ever.
Amen
