This is one of my favorite ales. Though it has been a few years since I have had a Bass, it still is what I remembered. In the first sip I was reminded why this is just such a fine beer compared to everything else on the market. That includes the hundreds of amber colored ales from the micros out there. Why? It is just balanced. The beer is not overly sweet and certainly not dry. It is not too carmely in flavor, color or texture though it is a carmel flavored style ale. Frankly, it is just not contrived like many of the micro ales out there in a typical over done American way. Many of the micros in my opinion over-flavor their beers. To be unique, to stand out from the crowd, they just try too hard. And that can be a good thing as the state of the US beer selection and offerings have improved so much in the last 20 years. But, Bass just has to be Bass.
