This was a very nice American style IPA that balanced the floral-fruity character of the hops with a solid bitterness very well. Avery's IPA poured golden with a slightly amber tint. The head was white and well laced. The head did not last too long but a nice thin creamy film remained as I drank it. Its aroma was fruity as it was laced with a mixture of grapefruit, orange and strawberry notes and very much like fruit punch. The hop fruit flavors are front loaded but rather mild. There was a slight sweetness that quickly evaporated into the dry bitterness of this beer. It seemed as if I exhaled the bitterness. The base ale was raw and grainy. Its body was lighter with a high amount of carbonation. I found this to be a very nice, bitter American style IPA. Most American IPAs are very fruity and floral which I like but lack the bitterness I also enjoy. This beer offers the best of both worlds. December 2008
