Transforming The Front Door To Shiny Black

When we moved into the house, the front door had a rather bland bluish-grey color which didn't do much to compliment or contrast the white facade of the house. Thinking we wanted something that provided a bit more more pop, we figured black would be a good choice.

First thing to do was to sand down the surface lightly to get the paint to adhere better.

Here's the door sanded lightly.

After two coats of primer, our trusted painter extraordinaire starting brushing on the black.

We used a new product from Glidden. It's a super high gloss oil based paint from Glidden, made specifically for doors and trim. It doesn't look like any paint you've ever seen. It's designed to eliminate any drips or brush strokes and the paint looks more like a gel than a regular paint.

It went on nice and easily.

Here the paint is drying.

After two coats.

Black, shiny, glossy. It turned out quite well! We would definitely recommend this paint. It was easy to work with and the result was just what we wanted.
