Today's Foraging Bounty

We're in early September and in Oregon that means blackberry season. About two blocks from our house there is a small park next to a meadow where wild blackberries grow as well as a variety of flowers. I went picking blackberries the other day (which were used up right away for making ice cream) so I decided to go out again today, hoping to fill the freezer with some fresh berries before they go out of season.

Quite a few were ripe today and I came home with a pretty good amount.

Flowers from the meadow to adorn our dining table.

Finally I get to utilize our full freezer! Here I freeze the blackberries on a sheet pan so they don't clump together. Once they are frozen I put them in plastic bags.

On another note, today we also got to try out our brand new crepe pan. And it is awesome! Anybody who enjoys crepes should head out right away and pick one of these French steel crepe pans up. These pans are pretty inexpensive (I think this one was $25) and they work so well. I have wanted to get one for a long time, and I absolutely love it! This pan makes it even more enjoyable to cook crepes than using a cast iron pan.
