Small Kitchen Demolition!

Right next to where our stove is there is a small countertop with an underneath cabinet. As we're redoing the kitchen - putting up new wall tile, flooring and new countertop, we were debating what to do with this small unit.

We would really like a larger stove sometime in the future, so therefore we were partial towards removing this whole piece so we could tile behind it, and eventually make room for a larger stove. Also, since we're putting in new counters, we thought it would be an unnecessary cost to also put a small new counter here, if we in the future would remove it anyway.

All the cabinets and shelves in our kitchen are made of nice, sturdy wood. That is, all the parts except this small unit which we realized as we started to bang it with a sledge hammer. Once it was clear this unit was actually made out of particle board and not wood, we felt even better about our choice to remove it.

With a sledge hammer and some force we removed this unit pretty quickly. It went really smoothly, and we're learning that is pretty rare when you're doing these types of things - there is always something that is taking longer than expected, however this time we were done in no time.

this project was done at night, hence the poor picture quality

Also check out the original color of the kitchen, apparently the previous owners tried to match it when they were painting.
