Maps Up On The Walls

To go from having nothing up on the walls to suddenly having them decorated makes such a huge difference. I thought we had come pretty far in terms of the remodel and decoration of our little house: the bookcases are up and complete, the wallpaper covers the arched wall, the walls are painted, and so forth. To hang things on the walls was more of an afterthought; something we wanted to do eventually but which wasn't on top of the list.

Then a few weeks ago we started working on making custom wooden frames to fit these vintage reproduction maps we had bought a few years ago. After ordering custom fit glass and putting them together, we finally had art. And fantastic art it is: beautiful maps full of history and rich design. In the brand new frames they have given our little house lots of additional character, and now the room (in particular the dining area) is starting to look more complete; more personal, fuller, better.

Before they were up I didn't really grasp what an enourmous difference it would make. Now I think it looks great, however we have a few empty wall spots left (really wish we had more though!) These few empty wall spots won't be empty for too much longer. Here's a clue of what will cover one of them:
