Making a Burlap Christmas Tree Skirt

The other day I realized we had no Christmas tree skirt to put under the tree. And even though I could of course just use an old blanket or something like that, I wanted something a bit nicer. However I didn't want to take on a long project that took hours to complete.

So off I went to the fabric store, thinking about burlap. I had imagined a darker burlap, however at the store they were out of that and only had super dark or white burlap. So I figured white burlap would be nice. To avoid doing too much sewing, I simply bought a few yards of a nice two inch wide red cotton ribbon, and I also got some brown rope for decoration.

I basically just cut a relatively round shape (I figured, who cares if it's exact, no point in painstainkingly making it perfect...) out of the two yards or so I bought at the store. Then I pinned the red ribbon all along the edge and then sewed it on. After that I placed the brown rope in a circle inside the red ribbon and hand sewed that on with a few stitches.

I like the contrast between the white burlap, red ribbon and brown rope - and of course green needles.

I also just made one cut with my scissors from the back of the skirt to the middle so it could cover the tree stand.

All in all a really quick project; I don't think it took more than one hour and I think it turned out rather nice. Now, all we need is Christmas presents!
