Farmer's Market Weekend Atmosphere

Saturday's Farmer's Market downtown. I have $16 cash in my pocket and try to control the impulse to buy anything and everything that looks good, and so many things look lovely! Seedlings take priority I think, because I have another box to fill, and then I need strawberries because they are as good as they get right now and it would be a shame to not indulge. I walk around with my camera, taking pictures and people smile and chat a bit. It's a nice thing to do on a Saturday morning; walk around and look at produce, and people and dogs.

I settled on the sweetest flower in a pot (adorable pink and white little flowers), which I didn't quite capture in this photo. I also got a black pepper seedling, and a tomtatillo plant, because the sign said "highly productive" and that was enough to get me sold. Also, beautiful strawberries and crisp lettuce.

Later today, I have an interesting meat dish planned for the grill, I have a no-knead bread dough sitting on the counter, waiting to be baked. And then we have those strawberries, what should I make with those? Maybe a cake, maybe we'll just have them with some whipped cream, which I really think is the way to go. Sweet and simple. Growing up in Sweden, we often had sliced strawberries in a bowl with milk. That to me tastes like childhood, but strangely the idea of eating things in a bowl of milk around here is not that popular! Anyway, we have a nice meal coming up today. Some baking to do, some planting to do. And talking, and thinking and maybe building something new...
