Digging Up Plants To Create a Walkway

Yesterday was such a gorgeous day: sunny, warm... just beautiful. To fully take advantage of the nice weather before the rain starts up again (and it will for sure) we decided to get our hands a bit dirty outside. Right by our driveway next to the house we have an area which has been covered with a few plants: furns, an azalea and some plant I'm not quite sure what it is.

The plants here were always in the way, you couldn't park the car too close to the side or else you couldn't open the door. So to increase the amount of walking space and reduce everyday frustration when parking (and getting out of the car) we decided to remove all the plants and prepare to put bricks down at some future date. Some plants we just digged up and put in the yard waste bin and some we replanted.

We went out and got our first shovel at the hardware store! This (cut down) furn was really in the dirt, quite stubborn to get out!

I re-planted the bulbs we found hidden under old dried leaves. Some became casualties of war as I accidentally chopped a few off - sorry pretty bulbs!

I also replanted some of these spring flowers. I think these survived just fine. They were a lot easier to get out and weren't as far down in the dirt.

We got most of it done yesterday. Now we have just the azalea bush to replant and then when it gets nice again (whenever that will be!) we're planning on getting some bricks to put down to make a nice walkway.

Name: Maria Comment: I think a brick walkway would be lovely! We have a lot of excess dirt along our driveway that came from the patio area the previous owner constructed (dug up the dirt and dumped it in different areas) and a lot of plants along the foundation which I don't really like. We pulled up a lot in the fall, but I need a plan now.
